On August 16, the Director General of Customs, Tayra Barsallo, participated in the Comprehensive Security Summit organized by the International Community in Risk Management and Security (COLADCA in Spanish). The meeting was attended by different professionals in the region and contributions were made in terms of customs surveillance in monitoring, control and video centers.

On the occasion, the head of Customs indicated that Panamá is seeking to establish a platform that allows effective monitoring of the movement of goods. In this way, Barsallo said that, by combating contraband and customs fraud, tax collection would increase.

In addition, the targeting of risk management and decision making related to maritime, land and air cargo entering, leaving or transiting the national territory will contribute to support national and international security strategies. Consequently, it will contribute to legitimate trade, which will improve Panama’s international image in its efforts to eradicate the trafficking of dangerous, prohibited and dual-use materials, as well as money laundering and the transfer of weapons of mass destruction.
