Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil and Paraguay sign agreement on e-commerce

On April 30, representatives of Uruguay, Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay signed the Mercosur E-Commerce Agreement that establishes the legal framework to facilitate the development of e-commerce in the block.

In addition to defining the basic elements of exchanges in this modality, the adoption of the regulation offers opportunities to companies of all kinds, making it possible to “add value” to trade relations, eliminate restrictions on transactions and expand the scale and alternatives for developing business in the region.

On the other hand, the Agreement regulates the conditions for the cross-border transfer of information, protection of personal data, location of computer facilities, online consumer protection, access to and use of the Internet, among others.

In this regard, the Uruguayan Foreign Ministry emphasized that “the Agreement is a modernizing instrument that accompanies the new trends in global trade and will provide multiple opportunities in various areas to companies of all sizes, especially small and medium-sized ones, will add value to trade relations, eliminate restrictions and expand the scale and alternatives for doing business in the region”.
