The Executive Branch promotes law declaring the prevention, detection and fight against lung cancer to be of national interest

On May 3rd, the Executive Branch passed the law declaring the prevention, early detection and treatment of lung cancer to be of national interest. The regulation establishes that within 30 days of the law’s entry into force, the drugs and supplies necessary for the treatment of lung cancer must be included in the National Unified List of Essential Medicines. The law is already in force.

The objective of the initiative is to include cancer care in the National Plan and promote access to cancer services in the country. Also, through the inclusion of this type of cancer, the prevention and early detection of lung cancer will be guaranteed. For its part, the Ministry of Health will approve the clinical practice guidelines applicable to the treatment of this type of cancer, including biological therapy, within 30 days of the entry into force of this law.
