On March 1, the Central Bank submitted documentation regarding the agreement signed with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to the General Syndicate of the Nation (SIGEN) and the Anti-Corruption Office; it did so in order to determine if damage was caused to the State in the debt process.

“It is argued that the documents that gave rise to the two agreements signed by the administration of (Mauricio) Macri with the IMF resulted in noncompliance with the procedures established in various laws for the constitution of external public debt, as well as the violation of obligations assumed with the Fund,” said the institution via this statement.

The monetary entity requested that a specific audit be carried out to assess the responsibilities of those officials who participated in the signing of the agreement between Argentina and the IMF in 2018.

According to the BCRA, the Executive Power did not have the authority to sign the agreements. In addition, the institution indicated that “the Macri administration did not comply [with what was agreed with the Fund] and only took measures to contain said flight [of capital] in October 2019, allowing an outflow of foreign currency [that was very important in a quantitative sense].”
