VENEZUELA

In a meeting with his executive cabinet on March 3, the President of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, reported regarding the bills that will be presented throughout this year to the National Assembly (AN). These include a law on the Social Protection Fund for Bank Deposits (FOGADE, in Spanish) and a reform to the Commercial Code. The president did not offer details about the content of these initiatives. The Executive Power is expected to present the bills to the AN in the coming weeks.

Maduro mentioned 34 bills that make up the Legislative Plan of the AN for 2021. Other relevant initiatives are reforms of the Organic Law of Sciences, Technology and Innovation and the Law Against Corruption. They will also promote laws on special economic zones, international cooperation, cyberspace, development of the economic system of indigenous peoples, and new ventures.

“I ask the government ministers to work together with the committees of the new National Assembly to move these bills forward,” said Maduro. It is worth remembering that the AN, with a majority of the ruling coalition Gran Polo Patriótico Simón Bolívar, took office on January 5 and has a mandate until 2026. This means that there is a high chance that the bills presented by the Executive Power in the next months will be passed.
