CHI. THE PUBLIC HEALTH INSTITUTE PRESENTS GUIDELINES FOR THE STORAGE OF MEDICATIONS
4 enero 2018

The agency under the Chilean Ministry of Health presented the details on how patients should store medications. The basic principles state that products should be stored in a hermetic space, in their original packages, and that each product’s expiration date should be checked prior to consumption. Some of the most common mistakes involve exposure to heat, sunlight, and humidity, particularly when medications are kept in the kitchen or bathroom.

Ideally, prescriptions should be placed in medicine chests and each medication box should also contain its corresponding insert. It should be noted that medications should be checked periodically so that any that have expired or have changed in appearance or color can be discarded, in addition to any drugs prescribed to patients for prior treatments.
