Paraguay Regulates Law on Care For Cancer Sufferers

On July 3, the Executive Branch, through Decree No. 2064, ordered the regulation of Law 6.266/2018 on providing Comprehensive Care for People with Cancer. The regulation establishes that the Public Health Ministry will set up an interdisciplinary technical committee responsible for developing a National List of Antineoplastic Drugs and complementary medication to provide treatment, monitoring and palliative care for cancer sufferers, as part of the National List of Essential Drugs.

The National List of Antineoplastic Drugs and the protocols concerning diagnosis and treatment have yet to be drawn up, taking into account the recommendations made by the National Advisory Commission for Comprehensive Cancer Care.    

The new law also provided for the creation of a National Cancer Institute (INCAN) and a National Registry of Persons with Cancer, which will serve as a publicly-accessible database managed by INCAN. ALso included is the development of cancer prevention plan, including a range of early detection actions.
