NCDA Calls Second Global Action Week on NCDs
17 julio 2019

The Noncommunicable Diseases Alliance (NCDA) is calling for countries to actively participate in the second Global Action Week to curb these diseases. Scheduled from 2 to 8 September 2019, the event is promoting the ENOUGH campaign in search of the necessary commitments to improve the health of the entire population through the prevention and control of Noncommunicable Diseases (NCDs). The meeting is expected to serve as a stimulus for the first United Nations High Level Meeting on Universal Health Coverage (UHC), to be held on 23 September in New York, United States during the United Nations General Assembly.

NCDA is one of the civil society entities working to diminish the impact of risk factors such as the consumption of alcoholic beverages, tobacco, sedentarism, or drinking sugary beverages. The idea is for NCDs to be contemplated in countries’ UHC plans and thus ensure healthier lives for their citizens. The call is open to anyone wishing to participate in the meeting, including those suffering from any of these diseases or who are at risk of contracting them, as well as members of civil society, young people, government representatives and policy makers, economists, academics, and even the private sector, among others.

The Alliance says that this week is an opportunity to talk to leaders, the media and the world in general about the importance of integrating NCDs into all aspects of primary health care. The organization will use this campaign to deepen its advocacy strategy aimed at getting governments to emphasize measures to mitigate and control these conditions. The discussion on NCDs during the first week of September will serve as input for the UHC meeting scheduled for late September at the UN headquarters
