Wednesday 12 was the deadline for submitting the names of the coalitions competing in the national elections in October, while the final make-up of the lists, which has not yet been announced,  must be presented before June 22.

President Mauricio Macri is seeking re-election and has chosen the head of the Peronist caucus in the Senate, Miguel Ángel Pichetto, as his running mate, in a new alliance called “Juntos por el Cambio”, again joined by the Unión Cívica Radical and the Coalición Cívica. The main opposition ticket will be the “Frente de Todos” coalition headed up by the Kirchner’s one-time chief of staff Alberto Fernández and former president Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, who have just been joined by Sergio Massa, leader of the Frente Renovador.

Former Economy Minister Roberto Lavagna will also be running along with Salta governor Juan Manuel Urtubey for the “Consenso Federal” alliance which is attempting to position itself as a third option. Meanwhile, the left-wing parties have come together in a unified front, “FIT Unidad”, with Nicolás del Caño and Romina del Plá on the ticket.
