On April 9, the Executive branch, through Decree 711, appointed Edwin René Aguilar Garnica as Director General of the Financial and Economic Analysis Unit (UAFE). He replaces Diana Salazar Méndez, who resigned after being appointed Attorney General of the State. The designation is already in effect.

Edwin René Aguilar Garnica is an expert in Banking and Finance Administration from the Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja. He has been working at UAFE since 2013, having become Technical Coordinator of Prevention, Information Analysis and Security, before being promoted to Director General.

It should be noted that the UAFE is the entity in charge of coordinating the fight against money laundering and financing of terrorism, through the formulation of policies and the publication of financial analysis reports. It also focuses on promoting technological innovation to counter risks related to money laundering and the financing of terrorism.
