On August 23rd, the Executive branch opened a public consultation to design the National Policy on Biological Drugs within the scope of the Unified Health System (SUS). The consultation focuses on the process of identifying difficulties related to the research, production, regulation and rational use of this type of product. The participatory drafting process will conclude September 9th. The Ministry of Health is expected to begin drafting a bill on the subject to generate competition among laboratories and promote technology transfer to achieve 100 per cent national production.

The consultation was led by the Working Group (WG) that the Brazilian Ministry of Health created last May. This group plans to include in its proposal guidelines, responsibilities and criteria for monitoring and evaluation of the regulatory framework applicable to biological drugs.

Citizens, social entities and representatives of the sector may participate in the public consultation process, with the aim of identifying difficulties related to the research, production, regulation and rational use of this type of drug.
