President Maduro announces changes in economic and trade cabinet

The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, announced the partial renewal of his cabinet June 14th. The appointment of Tareck El Aissami as the new head of the Sectoral Economy Vice-Presidency, an office that is in charge of coordinating the economic team of the Executive branch, is the most important change. Previously, El Aissami had served as Vice President of the Republic. In addition, Maduro appointed Yomana Koteich, a former Deputy Minister of Finance, as the new Minister of Foreign Trade and International Investment.

 

As head of the Sectoral Economy Vice Presidency, Tareck El Aissami will replace Wilmar Castro Soteldo in the coordination of the ministries with faculties in economy, finance, trade and investment, among others. He’s previously been Vice President of Venezuela from January 4th, 2017 until June 14th. Previously, he was governor of the Aragua State between 2012 and 2017. In addition, he was Minister of Internal Affairs and Justice between 2008 and 2012, during Hugo Chávez’s administration.

 

Yomana Koteich, the new Minister of Foreign Trade and International Investment, will replace José Vielma Mora. She has been Deputy Minister of Finance since January 31st, 2018. In 2016 she was appointed as president of the Agricultural Bank of Venezuela. In addition, he chaired the Regional Tourism Corporation of the Sparta State.
