Colombia heads to the polls in second round
15 junio 2018

This Sunday June 17th Colombia will hold the second round of the presidential elections. The preelectoral report includes general considerations for the election, the candidates’ profiles, their government platforms as well as key aspects of this contest and projections regarding the new president’s relationship with Congress.

On May 27th, the first round of the presidential elections was held. Given that no candidate obtained half plus one of the votes, a second round was organized.

The Colombian people will now have to choose between conservative candidate, Iván Duque and left-wing politician Gustavo Petro, who were the most voted candidates in first and second place respectively.

The candidate who obtains the higher number of votes will be declared president of Colombia. In line with the results obtained in the legislative elections in March and in the first round, Dique is expected to win this contest and become new President of the country.
