On April 27th senators members of the ruling party, lead by Federico Pinedo, introduced a bill to create a National Agency for the Evaluation of Health Technologies (known as AGNET for its name in Spanish). It will be in charge of establishing priorities in the use of health technologies based on scientific evidence. Through this bill, together with other two, the government seeks to boost a labor reform. The chairman of the Health Committee and former Minister of Health of the province of Jujuy, Mario Fiad, said that the debate in committee will begin in the coming weeks, although the resistance of the  opposition bloc (Partido Justicialista) to the bill of labor reform could cause delays.

The creation of the AGNET is on the agenda of the Ministry of Health since 2016 and has support of health care unions. However, the bill introduced that year lost legislative status without having obtained a committee ruling.

The AGNET, which would operate as a decentralized agency within the Ministry of Health, would be responsible for producing technical reports on drugs, medical products and clinical procedures in order to determine their appropriate use and mode of incorporation to the set of health benefits covered by the public sector and the Compulsory Medical Program, monitor the included technologies and promote information networks.
