Jorge Basso, head of the Ministry of Health, announced at the end of April a protocol to incorporate new medicines and high-cost treatments among the benefits covered by the health system. The list of new services includes medicines related to oncological pathologies. The list of drugs is expected to be updated by the end of 2018.

The minister expressed the need to rationalize health spending in order to allow for these new procedures. The Ministry of Health’s purchases will focus both on medicines intended to cure diseases as well as those that improve people’s quality of life.

The priorities in health terms will be identified through the joint work of the Ministry of Health and the Faculty of Medicine, so that this incorporation into the Comprehensive Health Care Plan can be carried out by the end of 2018.
