On April 12th, senators members of the Health Committee studied the bill that proposes the creation of the National Cancer Control Program. It seeks to guarantee comprehensive care for people with cancer. In the meeting, they received the general director of the National Cancer Institute (INCAN), Julio Rolón. During the first week of May, the senators will have a new meeting to rule the bill. Then it must be ruled by three more committees: Legislation, Finance, and Accounts. Only then the floor of the Chamber of Senate will start its debate.

The bill creates the National Network of comprehensive care for people with cancer. The Network contemplates the functional integration of public and private services throughout the country. Its objective is to promote timely access to prevention services, early detection, diagnosis, comprehensive treatment, rehabilitation and palliative care and support for cancer patients.

On behalf of the INCAN, Julio Rolon took part of the meeting. He highlighted as positive that the bill allows addressing the financing of the fight against cancer in Paraguay in a comprehensive manner between the State and the private sector. He stressed that in this way they can “develop protocols that help unify treatments to optimize financial resources.”

At the same time, the president of the Senate Health Committee, the pro-government legislator Julio Velázquez (Colorado Party) indicated that the objective of the legislators is “to agree on a law that will serve everyone and to guarantee the citizens an adequate and timely provision of treatment to the problem of cancer “.
