On Tuesday April 3rd the Senate floor debated bill No. 11,144-07, which regulates the protection and processing of personal data and creates the Personal Data Protection Agency. The Senate set a deadline for legislators to propose changes upto May 10th. In this way, the bill returns to the Legislation Committee, which should analyze the changes before the plenary can approve the bill and after that send it to the Chamber of Deputies.

On the other hand, the Chamber of Deputies plans to study bill No. 9384-07 in the coming weeks. This bill, which gives constitutional status to the protection of personal data, was passed with changes by the Constitution Committee of the Chamber of Deputies last January 23rd. It is very likely the bill will be approved in the floor. If this happens, it would be forwarded to the Senate to give consent to the amendments.
