LEGISLATORS ANALYZE THE IDB PROGRAM FOR THE PURCHASE OF MEDICATIONS

On September 11th, Health Committee deputies received representatives from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), who presented the objectives of “Comprehensive Health Program 2,” which is pending ratification by the legislative plenary session and which expires October 8th.

The program, which is financed by the international institution with a loan of $170 million, will allow for the purchase of medications, the acquisition of family health community equipment, and medical supplies, as well as the creation of specialized centers of care in the three departmental capitals.

As explained by an IDB representative, Carmiña Moreno, the execution of the program is intended to strengthen the public health services network, thereby increasing coverage by the integrated and comprehensive health networks, to benefit more than 1.2 million people.

At the end of the meeting, the deputies agreed to craft a legislative measure following the analysis of the program presented by the IDB.
