Senator Sandra Giménez, of Frente Renovador de la Concordia, introduced a bill of law (File-3299-S-2017) to suspend the implementation of any increase in the sale price of oncologic medications from the amounts in effect since September 1, 2017 for a period of one hundred and eighty days.

The text authorizes the Executive Branch to implement the necessary regulation and control mechanisms to monitor the reasonable evolution of medication prices as a function of the production and/or importation and distribution cost structure.

“The goal is for the Executive Branch to be able to evaluate the status of the situation and implement mechanisms to ensure the regulation of the oncologic medications market in particular,” Giménez asserted, adding “We need the State to address this delicate situation.”

Based on this bill of law, oncologic patients’ access to proper treatment is sought to be protected, thereby guaranteeing their right to health care.
